Ostend is the 'seat of government'  on Waiheke with the local Auckland City Council Council offices, medical centre, Returned Services Association Club, shops, a weekly village market on Saturday mornings and the island's supermarket.

Close to Ostend there is Tahi Road is as commercial as you get on Waiheke with shops, takeaways, car repair services and a gym. A riding school and several vineyards are also near Ostend. The picture below shows the Saturday market at Ostend.
