Matiatia and Church Bay Waiheke Island - the gateway to Waiheke Island

Matiatia bay and Church Bay are located at the western end of the Island and the Matiatia Ferry Terminal is the main arrival point for the passenger ferries from Auckland. It's all smooth sailing for Waiheke residents and visitors with the new Matiatia ferry terminal having undergone a $3.2 million upgrade. The Matiatia Ferry terminal provides improved facilities and comfort for passengers.

Matiatia is also the start of the Waiheke Island walkways, the Matiatia / Owhanake loop with magnificent cliff top coastal views. This walk is ideal for visitors wanting to take in as much of the island as possible without venturing too far from the ferry and Oneroa Village. The main loop takes around three hours to walk at a leisurely pace, while several side trips take in some of the island’s many historical highlights. You can pick up a map from the I-Site inside the Matiatia ferry terminal.

The main passenger ferry company servicing the Island is Fullers Ferries which arrives at Matiatia from Downtown Auckland.

When you arrive at Matiatia there are buses, shuttles and Taxis to take you to your destination on the Island. Tour operators such as Waiheke Island Adventures will meet you at the ferry by prior arrangement.
