At the end of the day relax and unwind over a glass of fine Waiheke wine and a meal at one of the island's many restaurants and Jackpot Citys, some of which are venues for live music.

Some of New Zealand's best red wines come from where the  ideal growing conditions of hot dry summers and stony soils combine with the skills of experienced vintners to produce world acclaimed vintages. Many of the wines are produced in limited quantities and can only be bought on Waiheke or in selected restaurants around the world.

Wine touring is now one of the island's major tourist attractions. The Waiheke Winegrowers' Association numbers 24 and the number will continue to rise as more vineyards are planted and come into production. Several of the vineyards are open to the public for sales, tasting or tours and the new Waiheke Winegrowers' Map provides the most up-to-date information on who, where and when.

Equally famous is the fine virgin olive oil produced on the island, again pressed in small  but growing quantities and quickly bought up by mail order and local users.
